In a significant boost for local employment and automotive enthusiasts alike, Boreham Motorworks has announced a new venture that promises to secure long-term job prospects for its UK workforce. The company, a part of the DRVN Automotive Group, has gained the rights to produce new and recreated versions of classic Ford cars, starting with the legendary RS200 rally car and the iconic Mk1 Ford Escort. This development has been met with widespread excitement, as it marks the return of these beloved models to production with Ford’s official blessing.
Classic Fords to Be Remastered
Boreham Motorworks’ agreement with the Ford Motor Company allows it to produce a series of continuation and remastered iconic Ford vehicles in very limited numbers. The first of these to hit the market will be a revamped Ford RS200. Originally a Group B rally car produced in small numbers for road use, the new RS200 will be an entirely new model. While detailed specifications are scarce, teaser images reveal a modern twist with LED headlights, a mid-engined layout, composite body, and a four-wheel-drive system.
Following the RS200, the next model to be relaunched is the Mk1 Ford Escort. Unlike the RS200, the Mk1 Escort will be a continuation model, meaning the new cars will follow on from the original Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) from the 1960s. This suggests that Boreham Motorworks’ recreation will closely mirror the original Mk1 Escort in design and build, albeit with some modern enhancements such as LED daytime running lights.
A Bright Future for Boreham Motorworks
This initiative is not only a nod to the past but a significant stride towards securing the future for Boreham Motorworks and its automotive employees. The project has ignited a sense of pride among the workers, many of whom have a personal connection to these classic models through their family heritage. The explicit approval from Ford adds a layer of authenticity and prestige to the project, further enhancing its appeal.
Will Ford, General Manager of Ford Performance Motorsports, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “From the first time we met with Boreham Motorworks and the DRVN team, it was clear that they had an exciting vision for how to bring some of our most iconic historical nameplates to life for the modern era.”
Looking Ahead: More Classic Models to Come
The agreement also includes permission to produce a further five classic Ford models. Enthusiasts and workers alike can look forward to the potential reappearance of other beloved models such as the Mk2 Escort, Capri, and Sierra. Each model will be built in limited numbers, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and maintaining the exclusivity that collectors and fans value.
While prices and exact specifications for these remastered classics are yet to be revealed, the anticipation is palpable. Boreham Motorworks is expected to release more information, including detailed specs and more images, in the near future.
The Workers Union Says…
“The return of the RS200 and Mk1 Escort signifies more than just a revival of classic cars; it symbolizes a bright future for Boreham Motorworks and its skilled workforce. As these iconic vehicles are brought back to life with modern upgrades, they will undoubtedly capture the hearts of automotive enthusiasts and secure long-term job prospects for the dedicated employees at Boreham Motorworks.
