In a significant boost for local employment and automotive enthusiasts alike, Boreham Motorworks has announced a new venture that promises to secure long-term job prospects for its UK workforce. The company, a part of the DRVN Automotive Group, has gained the rights to produce new and recreated versions of classic Ford cars, starting with the legendary RS200 rally car and the iconic Mk1 Ford Escort. This development has been met with widespread excitement, as it marks the return of these beloved models to production with Ford’s official blessing.
Classic Fords to Be Remastered
Boreham Motorworks’ agreement with the Ford Motor Company allows it to produce a series of continuation and remastered iconic Ford vehicles in very limited numbers. The first of these to hit the market will be a revamped Ford RS200. Originally a Group B rally car produced in small numbers for road use, the new RS200 will be an entirely new model. While detailed specifications are scarce, teaser images reveal a modern twist with LED headlights, a mid-engined layout, composite body, and a four-wheel-drive system.
Following the RS200, the next model to be relaunched is the Mk1 Ford Escort. Unlike the RS200, the Mk1 Escort will be a continuation model, meaning the new cars will follow on from the original Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) from the 1960s. This suggests that Boreham Motorworks’ recreation will closely mirror the original Mk1 Escort in design and build, albeit with some modern enhancements such as LED daytime running lights.
